Job Description

With MAD SCIENCE you can teach a variety of After School 6-week & 4 week programs, In-Class Workshops, Birthday Parties, Special Events, and Summer Camps.

This P/T position requires a responsible, energetic, friendly, animated, outgoing and confident personality, experience working with groups of young children, and love of science.Teaching experience and public speaking is an asset.

You need to have access to a reliable car to be able to get you your assignments, and a flexible schedule. You need to be available 3 or 4 days during the week from approximately 2 to 4 pm, when majority of ASP programs take place. In case of Birthday Party instructor, you will need to available during weekends. 

 

Mad Science Instructor and Assistant:

  • Conduct or assist hands-on educational Mad Science courses for children during in-class, lunch time or after-school periods, as scheduled by Mad Science of Vancouver Island.
  • Ensure full participation of all children, while delivering solid and enjoyable educational value.
  • Ensure high-energy and professional presentation of all Mad Science concepts.
  • Assume responsibility to maintain and return all issued program manuals, lab coats, and equipment.
  • Attend training seminars and weekly meetings as required.
  • Arrange own transportation to each course that he/she is responsible to attend.
  • Always arrive at least 15 minutes early for course set-up.
  • Check-in and check-out equipment each week.
  • Manage a program load of two to ten courses per week.
  • Assume responsibility for safe operation, preparation, maintenance, and upkeep of all equipment and supplies issued by Mad Science
  • Clean up and arranges the classroom so that it is in the EXACT condition (or cleaner than) it was found, prior to the Mad Science course.
  • Clean and organizes all equipment in each kit container that is returned at the end of each week.
  • Pick up and returns equipment in a timely fashion, to ensure a smooth flow of equipment to other Instructors.
  • Immediately locate and return or replace any missing/lost non-consumable items from the kit they are responsible for at the end of each week. 
  • Send class report after every program.
  • Act as a goodwill ambassador of Mad Science.
